the end of appearances
For the second time the crystal-clear chant is heard, calling the wine master to Tolmen. A basin in the stone wash table has been filled with water. In the mirrored surface, the wine master looks at his reflection. He sees the mask his face has become, this role he plays in human society. Dipping in his hands, he breaks the reflection before sprinkling water on his face to clean off his appearance. The theatrical role is dispensed with, and the being re-emerges, coming through the body’s surface. From this point on, the wine master proceeds without a mask.
